A New Movie by Nathan Slattery

Stoa, in classic Greek architecture, means a covered walkway or portico, commonly for public use. In this project, Slattery is using it as the name for a mystical Island.

STOA is the most ambitious project by Irish born actor and filmmaker Nathan Slattery to-date. It has already been over a decade in the planning. In his own words, in his characteristic "a hundred thoughts per minute " style:

After auditioning with Warner Brothers for Superman Returns 2004 AD... part not granted...

I decided to assemble a collective group of actors to put together what became Biopsy Shake... in 2005 AD.

On the day after the premiere June 2005...

I looked up at a lighthouse at Roches point Cork, √Čire. The lighthouse reminded me of a column...

Thought about Greece and the columns of STOA...

There the rest was geography... Got storyboarding comic book style arrangements... Filmed some ideas... While traveling from Ethiopia... through Somalia... then on to Djibouti...

West of Ireland... Edinburgh Arthur's chair... Inspired me... But in saying that... On Inis Mean Galway... Synge's chair...

Here layeth the Genesis of STOA.

For the next 10 years...

Dreamed up and wrote... then performed... the following projects, in conjunction with scenes from STOA:

2007- Mr spoon - short film - on location, Ireland...

2010- Stowaway - theatre play - Camden Palace - Cork, Ireland

2012-  up there Titanic - Edinburgh Fringe Festival - Scotland

2014- Kaleidoscope Cabinet of Couch Curiosities - Vancouver....

During all this time, ideas and scenes unfolded after developing and delving more into depth... within the sacred... spiritual... sanctuaries of STOA...

Now, finally: He has assembled a team of enthusiasts, and work on the project has started in earnest. This website is about the making of the movie, about our adventures (and probably also some misadventures) as the work progresses ... and about raising funds! In the past, Nathan Slattery has worked miracles on little or no budget... but there is always something which cannot be begged or borrowed (or stolen) and must be paid for. Similar to the manner in which Slattery approached Biopsy Shake, we are finding the funds we go along.
